The flat platform fee

Gumroad moved away from its old tiered structure to a single flat 10%platform fee on every sale, regardless of your volume or which plan you're on. There's no monthly subscription cost to weigh anymore — you simply give up 10% of each transaction. The flat fee is the easy part to reason about. The part creators forget is the $0.50 fixed charge that rides along with it, and that both are taken before you ever see the money.

There is no separate processing fee

This is the point most fee guides still get wrong. Since 1 January 2026 Gumroad is the Merchant of Record on your sales — it collects the money, it carries the card-processing cost, and it handles sales tax/VAT worldwide. There is no extra 2.9% + $0.30 stacked on top the way there is on Lemon Squeezy or Payhip. Gumroad's published rate, 10% + $0.50, is the whole deduction.

That fixed $0.50per transaction is what quietly wrecks low-priced products. On a $5 sale it's 10% of the price all by itself, before the percentage fee even applies.

How the layers stack — a real example

You sell a digital product for $20.

• Sale price: $20.00
• Gumroad fee (10%): −$2.00
• Fixed per-transaction fee: −$0.50
• You take home: $17.50

That's 87.5% of the sticker price — and the effective rate gets worse the cheaper your product is, because the flat $0.50 is a bigger slice of a small sale.

The Discover marketplace exception

If a buyer finds your product through Gumroad's Discover marketplace rather than a link you sent them, Gumroad takes an extra fee on that specific sale (historically an additional 30% on Discover-attributed sales) in exchange for sending you a customer you didn't have to find yourself. Sales that come from your own links, email list, or website are notcharged the Discover fee — only marketplace-sourced sales are. It's effectively a built-in affiliate cost: you pay more, but only on traffic Gumroad brought you.
